ELLIOT GRESTY

Elliot Gresty is the principal bass clarinetist of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he will assume in 2023.

Before joining the BBC Philharmonic, Elliot had an eclectic freelance career, playing bass clarinet with orchestras such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and as a guest solo clarinetist with orchestras including the English National Opera, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2019, Elliot was the recipient of the prestigious Princes Prize from the Musicians’ Company, and he performed live and was interviewed on Radio 3’s In Tune program in 2019 and 2020. He regularly gives recitals throughout the UK, including venues such as Leeds College of Music, St James Piccadilly, and as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Elliot is returning to the northwest of England, where he began his musical studies at the Chetham’s School of Music with Andrew Wilson and Lynsey Marsh before earning a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music, where he received awards in both clarinet and bass clarinet. He studied bass clarinet with Paul Richards and Michael Harris, clarinet with Richard Hosford, Timothy Lines, Barnaby Robson, and Peter Sparks, and historical clarinets with Colin Lawson.
